Pantothenic acid - essential for your body
Vitamin B5 is also called pantothenic acid (pantos = "everywhere") and is found in all cells. The vitamin is a prerequisite for life; the body's energy, vitality and the formation of new cells. It strengthens the adrenal glands, the immune system and works with B6 in the event of allergic reactions, where it dampens the reaction, acts as diuretic and regulates the potassium/sodium balance.
Like some of the other B vitamins, B5 also plays a role in relation to protein, fat and carbohydrates processing, and thus also to the health of hair, skin and nails.
Recommended daily dosage for adults is 4-7 mg. However, this is a guideline only, as people with a B5 deficiency are rare. The supplement is therefore best taken in the form of a daily dose of vitamins, as a supplement to a healthy and varied diet.
B5 is a part of coenzyme A; an active energy producer in all the cells of the body. It therefore also effects normal growth and central nervous system development. Lack of pantothenic acid is only seen in cases of severe malnutrition. In these cases, it may lead to fatigue, headache and diarrhea.
